    Frank Castanos

    Director of Instruction

    Frank Castaños began his work with VVC as an Instructor in 2013. He has experience in customized trainings, grant development/implementation, industry partnerships, registered apprenticeships, re-entry programs and more. He is currently a member of the IEDRC’s Executive Council for Economic Development & Contract Education. He is hosted at VVC’s High Desert Training Center, but also facilitates programs throughout the community.

    Community Health Worker Apprenticeship Program

    6 months to complete the program

    Access to this program is typically open to:

    • Current employees

      Incumbent workers referred to the program by their employer

    • Current Students

      Students enrolling in the program needing placement with an employer

    The courses required to complete the program are listed here. Many other courses of Related Instruction are also available and subject to apprenticeship waiver of fees.

    • HLTH 0108 and HLTH 0109 both Non-Credit; these are CHW parts 1 and 2.

    Registered Nurse Apprenticeship Program

    30 - 54 months to complete the program

    Access to this program is typically open to:

    • Current employees

      Incumbent workers referred to the program by their employer

    • Current Students

      Students enrolling in the program needing placement with an employer

    • Entry-Level Job Seekers

      Entry-level job seekers with no previous experience

    • General

      Workers with experience in the industry prior to apprenticeship
      Individuals who previously completed specified apprenticeship or pre-apprenticeship

    The courses required

    The courses required to complete the program are listed here. Many other courses of Related Instruction are also available and subject to apprenticeship waiver of fees.

    • NURS 240/246 Pharmacology and Nursing Management/Assessment and Nursing Skills (after Fall 2023 these Pre-Nursing courses will no longer be part of the Program.
    • NURS 221/222/223/224 Nursing Processes 1/2/3/4.
    • While in the Nursing Program various requirements must be met for background checks, vaccination, grade maintenance, and more. These are specified in a Program Contract.

    Are there pre-conditions for entry into the Program or for apprentice job placement in this Industry Sector?

    • Must have a California driver's license
    • Must complete nursing program prerequisites: estimated 1-2 years of prerequisite courses
    • Apprentices will be required to take drug tests, physicals, vaccinations and background checks
    • Entry into Apprenticeship Program requires a program application, personal statement, employer interview, and “Matching Process"
    • Students who want to be considered for the VVC Nursing Apprenticeship must be also accepted into the VVC Nursing Program and maintain legal residency

    Avionics/Electronics Technician Apprenticeship Program

    12 - 36 months to complete the program

    • Current employees

      Incumbent workers referred to the program by their employer

    • Current Students

      Students enrolling in the program needing placement with an employer

    • Entry-Level Job Seekers

      Entry-level job seekers with no previous experience

    • CIS-190 Intro to Unix Operating Systems

    Are there pre-conditions for entry into the Program or for apprentice job placement in this Industry Sector?

    • Apprenticeship participants must be selected and vetted by a partnered employer to participate in the Avionics/Electronics Apprenticeship Program
    • Candidate must meet all requirements set forth by the partnered employer

    Industrial Mechanic (Industrial Technologies and Advanced Manufacturing Industry Sector) Apprenticeship Program

    12 - 24 months to complete the program

    Access to this program is typically open to:

    • Current employees

      Incumbent workers referred to the program by their employer

    The courses required to complete the program are listed here. Many other courses of Related Instruction are also available and subject to apprenticeship waiver of fees.

    • Courses of Related Instruction: Courses address overarching topics such as precision measuring tools, trade math, basic and intermediate electricity, hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, mechanical drives, fasteners and gaskets, bearings, seals, conveyors, equipment troubleshooting, and welding.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview to discuss their passion for the automotive industry, technical knowledge, and commitment to becoming an apprentice.
